I was in San Francisco this past weekend and one of the friends that I was with told me that we had to stop by Knead Patisserie because she had heard about a crème brûlée pastry that we just had to try. I was obviously game as I don’t ever turn down the chance to try a new dessert!

Knead Patisserie is located in what I’m told is the Mission, and it’s a little out of the way if you’re staying downtown. I really don’t know about public transportation options as we took cabs to get there and back.

Can I take a second to tell you how glad I am that we made this trip? The Pomme d’Amour at Knead Patisserie might be the single best pastry I have ever had in my life. EVER.

Paula Deen’s Hot Chocolate

Paula Deen Hot Chocolate

 

Despite the fact that it is March 25, the temperature in Chicago today was below freezing! While I’d normally be making the switch to iced and frozen drinks about this time of year, today’s frigid temperatures called for hot chocolate. While I have a favorite go-to hot chocolate recipe, today I decided to try out Paula Deen’s Hot Chocolate.

I followed this hot chocolate recipe from the Paula Deen website.

I was a little unsure about the recipe at first because it uses a can of sweetened condensed milk, the texture of which usually grosses me out, but I had a can sitting in my pantry so I decided to put it to good use. (The sweetened condensed milk replaces the sugar that is found in other recipes.)

Overall I thought this hot chocolate was creamy and sweet, but not overly so. The recipe makes a ton of servings, so it would be perfect for large gatherings! Overall, this was the perfect dessert for this chilly night and I have enough left over to get me through this cold spell that is supposed to break by the weekend.

I picked up the marshmallows last week from Provence Breads & Cafe in Nashville. They sell a huge bag of homemade marshmallows for just $8 – a real steal!

Mast Brothers Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt

 

I’m not going to lie. What originally attracted me to Mast Brothers Chocolate is their vibrant packaging. Each chocolate bar has its own colorful and unique design and I had to stop myself from buying one of each bar simply because I liked the packaging. (It was tough!) I obviously purchased the Mast Brothers Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt Bar, which was a delicious decision on my behalf!

Mast Brothers Chocolates are made in Brooklyn. The next time I’m out that way I’m planning on stopping by their facilities as I’ve heard they offer both tours and tastings and I’m a fan of both activities, especially when chocolate is involved.

Mast Brothers Dark Chocolate

 

The Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt Bar is 73% cacao from Madagascar, that’s very rich in flavor. It’s mildly sweet, but definitely not overly so. I really tasted the flavor at the back of my mouth, and the aftertaste lingered for quite awhile.

Turtle Sundae from Dairy Deluxe

Dairy Deluxe Turtle Sundae

 

Should you ever find yourself in the metro Detroit area I highly recommend taking a trip to Birmingham to check out Dairy Deluxe, a fantastic little ice cream stand that you can’t miss if you’re driving along Woodward.

While I’ve never heard anyone complain about anything they’ve had from Dairy Deluxe, I’ve actually only had the turtle sundae. As many turtle sundaes as I have had in my life there is no question that the turtle sundae from Dairy Deluxe is the absolute best.
